Many in the higher education sector will be aware of the recent shutdown of the 2G telecommunications network by Telstra on 1 December 2016. While highly publicized, it is the first of many mobile network operators around the world who are planning to shut down their 2G networks to re-farm spectrum to the more efficient 4G services.
