CEO Connect #1, February 2024

Dear Member,

Leading a Member-based organisation is a privilege that offers a unique relationship dynamic between the organisation and its Members, distinct from typical customer-supplier interactions. As a Member, your organisation offers the opportunity to actively engage with your Mutual. Whether that be through participation as a Member Director or by joining the Technical Committee, our Members provide invaluable insights to the Unimutual team. These insights enable us to enhance outcomes, ultimately delivering greater value to you, our esteemed Members. Additionally, the feedback gathered from our Member Experience Surveys increases our understanding of your evolving needs and expectations, reinforcing the significance of this special relationship.

Recognition

In recent months, we have witnessed this special relationship in action as we introduced our organisation’s new Constitution. Updating our Constitution is crucial to ensure we remain adaptable, compliant, and responsive to evolving governance and regulatory practices. By aligning with current laws and governance standards, we increase our ability to navigate change, mitigate risk, and better serve our diverse membership.

It has been inspiring to see our Members embrace this change, actively providing feedback through various channels including the recent webinar, emails, and individual meetings. These engagements demonstrate the Unimutual difference and genuine partnership in action.

In the spirit of transparency, we have compiled a list of Frequently Asked Questions to address common queries and provide clarity on the proposed Constitution. We trust that this resource will aid in your understanding of the proposed changes.

I am genuinely excited about this transformation. Modernisation isn’t just a necessity; it’s a proactive step towards ensuring our Mutual’s long-term success and resilience in an ever-evolving landscape. To adopt the proposed Constitution, a Special General Meeting will be held on 27 March 2024, following our Annual General Meeting.

Should you have any inquiries, I would be delighted to discuss this matter with you. Please feel free to reach out to me directly at Geoff.Henderson@unimutual.com.au.

Strategy Update

Building upon Member feedback, the Unimutual team created a robust five-year strategy, designed to steer us towards success through to 2028. Today, I’m thrilled to delve deeper into the detail of this forward-looking plan.

At its heart, our strategy is anchored by six strategic pillars, each representing a fundamental aspect of our organisational ethos: Members First, Capital Strength, Sustainable Growth, Market Connection, Manage the Cycle, and Dynamic Organisation. Within the framework of these pillars lie several initiatives, carefully designed to move our Mutual into the future, while steadfastly addressing the evolving needs of our valued Members.

To ensure accessibility and clarity, we’ve created a comprehensive strategy-on-a-page, serving as a condensed roadmap to our aspirations along with a short video to provide further insight into the essence of our strategic endeavors. These resources serve as invaluable guides, offering a glimpse into the collective vision we aspire to realise at Unimutual.

2024 Plan

The culmination of our 2024 Strategic Plan marks a significant milestone for Unimutual, as we unveil several initiatives poised to elevate our operations. Let’s delve into each of these transformative endeavors:

Risk Services Stategy: At the forefront of our strategic agenda is the implementation of a refreshed Risk Services Strategy. This initiative is designed to enhance our risk management framework, enabling us to proactively identify, assess, and advise Members on potential risks that may impact their organisation.

New Website: As part of our commitment to delivering unparalleled user experience, we’re looking to revamp the Unimutual website. Designed with user-centricity in mind, our new digital platform will offer intuitive navigation, enriched content, and enhanced functionality, ensuring seamless interaction and accessibility for all users. From streamlined access to resources and services to dynamic engagement opportunities, our new website will reflect our dedication to staying ahead in the digital landscape.

System Automation: Embracing the power of automation, we are embarking on a journey to streamline and optimise our internal processes through advanced system automation. By leveraging new technologies, we aim to enhance operational efficiency, minimising manual interventions. This initiative will reduce cost, optimise resources, and empower our team to focus on strategic initiatives that drive value and foster growth.

Uplift in Cyber Security: In an era marked by increasing cyber threats and vulnerabilities, safeguarding our digital infrastructure and protecting sensitive information is paramount. With a renewed focus on cyber resilience, we’re investing in an uplift of our cyber security capabilities. We’re bolstering our defenses to mitigate cyber risks and ensure the integrity and confidentiality of our data assets.

As we embark on the implementation of these strategic initiatives, we remain steadfast in our commitment to driving excellence, innovation, and value creation across all facets of our organisation. Together, we’re shaping a resilient and future-ready Mutual that is poised to thrive in an ever-evolving landscape.

Yours sincerely,

Geoff Henderson
