Controlled Environment (CE) losses, often in the form of freezer spoilage, is an all too common occurrence which can not only compromise the continuity of important research and associated grant funding but may also adversely impact the University’s good reputation.
Naturally, there are a number of important risk management measures which should be implemented in order to ensure that the risk of TCE spoilage and the quantum of resultant losses are minimised so far as is reasonably practicable. As a last resort, financial protection is available through the mutual, however, this does not reduce the delay to research outcomes or the angst associated with the uncertainty of ongoing grant or research funding.
This checklist is designed to assist you to establish a value for the contents contained within a single research TCE. It also provides insight into the actions which may need to be taken to manage the risks to TCE contents and research efforts generally.
