CEO Connect #1: Welcoming 2022 and Unimutual new Chair, Andrew Kearnan

Dear Member,

Appointment of new Chair to Unimutual Limited

I am very pleased to be able to announce that Andrew Kearnan was appointed to our Board as Chair in January this year.  Andrew is a widely experienced executive, with technical capabilities in insurance, banking, finance, accounting, investment / capital markets, investor relations and M&A.  Andrew is also an experienced non-executive director on the board of both commercial and mutual organisations.  The range of experience and skill that Andrew brings to Unimutual has excited the team and we are already benefiting from this during our strategic and financial planning exercise.  I look forward to introducing Andrew to you during our March conference.

Unimutual Conference 17th and 18th March 2022

This year’s theme ‘Disruption – Creator of Opportunities’, is very fitting as we all overcome new challenges related to the pandemic. Due to the current Covid-19 case numbers, and in the interests of everyone’s safety, we have decided to change the format of this year’s Annual Conference.  Like many organisations we will take advantage of available technology and convert the conference to a virtual event.  The dates have been updated to the 17th and 18th of March from 12:30pm – 4:30pm each day (AEDT).  There will also be a networking opportunity for you to join at the end of each day. We are assuming that those of you who have responded positively to the invitations will attend the virtual sessions.  We have engaged a leading production company to ensure that we provide a quality event and will be in touch soon with the relevant details.

We have also engaged one of Australia’s most respected media personalities and radio hosts, James O’Loghlin, to MC the conference.  James is best known for hosting The New Inventors on ABC TV, and he is also the author of seven books including ‘Innovation is a State of Mind – Simple Strategies to be more Innovative in what you do’.   James’ experience in change and innovation sees him well placed to take our presenters through a program focusing on how we can use disruption to build a better future – for the higher education sector and for society.

You can look forward to several interesting sessions including Professor Alex Zelinsky, Vice-Chancellor, University of Newcastle will be delivering the keynote address.  Sarah Morse, Founder and Director of social impact organisation Unchained, who will deliver an inspiring talk on the Modern Slavery Act, the “why” behind it, and the impact Covid-19 is having on modern slavery and international students. Harry Rosenthal will be presenting on the lessons he has learnt in Pandemic Crisis Planning. You can view the updated Conference program on our website here.

Roadmap 22

The entire team have spent the majority of their time during January undertaking the research necessary to underpin our strategic planning process.  We have had significant support from member based and external subject matter experts on subjects ranging from changes in the higher education and insurance sectors through climate change and the future of the workplace.  We are currently considering what we have learnt and are working that through the relevancy exercise to complete our Roadmap 22 for presentation to the board and then members by the end of February.

I do hope that 2022 is going to be a year full of learning, good experiences and excellent social engagement for each and every one of you.

Regards,

Terry Ibbotson

Managing Director & Acting CEO
