November 16, 2016Beware of Falling Branches!
November 16, 2016This claim relates to water damage following the activation of an automatic sprinkler in an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) control cabinet following the apparent failure of temperature controls within that room.
The UPS is a large piece of equipment, which is housed in a small dedicated room. As the unit generates a large amount of heat, the room is equipped with an extraction fan and dedicated air conditioning grilles.
It was initially thought that the sprinkler activation had been caused by a failure in the UPS itself or in the extraction fan. However, further investigation revealed that, at 2.26am on Easter Monday, a power interruption had affected the building. After the power had been reinstated, security staff conducted a walk around in order to ensure that various items of equipment were operational. Unfortunately, this did not include the air conditioning, which had failed to re-start following the restoration of power.
