Leading through challenging times

Unimutual’s Annual Conference was held Wednesday 19 to Friday 21 March 2025 at the Pullman Hotel in Adelaide, South Australia.

Across the three days, delegates had the opportunity to learn about the importance of collaboration and leadership during challenging times, with a focus on sustainability.

The first round of sessions on Wednesday 19 March was dedicated towards educating Members about current and emerging risks impacting the higher education and research sector.  A panel of experts ran each session, including members of our Risk Management team and Richard Head from Headsure and John Moran from Atmos Group.

The three days offered a chance to hear from an incredible line-up of speakers including a special keynote address from Chief Executive Officer of Universities Australia, Luke Sheehy; along with Tim Jarvis who delivered an engaging presentation focused on leadership lessons from a lifetime of expeditions. We were also fortunate to hear from triple Paralympic Gold Medalist, Katrina-Webb-Denis PLY OAM who shared her insights on aligning purpose, high-performance and human potential to deliver personal, commercial, social and global solutions.

Delegates also had the opportunity to participate in an interesting mock trial session, which delved into Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy – a neurodegenerative disease affecting those who have a history of exposure to repetitive traumatic brain injury.

Sessions also unpacked key risks facing the higher education and research sector, including cyber incident response, containing your protection costs, as well as battery charging and storage.

It was also a pleasure to welcome Jordan Knight from one of our Allied Member institutes, Grace College. Jordan delivered an interesting presentation focused on embracing neurodiversity within university residences and how to think differently about fostering inclusivity.
